Abstract
In a survey of 1994, patients of a metropolitan detoxification ward are more seriously advanced in their dependency disorder in comparison to those admitted ten years earlier. In the most recent study the patient had significantly more hospital admissions. A statistically higher percentage of patients had already undergo a conventional from a habituation-therapy. Higher rates of loss of control with respect to alcohol, more black-outs, more delusional episodes and withdrawal seizures were registered by patients of 1994. A number of patients of the Jellinek-types Alpha and Beta were more seldom, the types Gamma and Delta more often recognised in patients of the more recent study (Jellinek, 1960). Patients of 1994 more often reached for hard liquor. They reported more subjective reasons for drinking and were more frequently given somatic diagnosis. The number of homeless patients, skyrocket and more often the patients reported personal difficulties > resulting from their substance dependency. In 1994, more older patients were represented and more patients reported a family with respect to substance abuse.
